Background

Boat berths are scarce on almost every Swiss lake. Around 300 harbours with 50,000 to 75,000 water berths are run by municipalities, clubs and private operators, each with its own waiting list, rules and fees. Depending on the location and boat size, the wait for a public berth is 20 to 40 years.

Anyone looking for a berth signs up at several harbours, often pays a waiting list fee every year and rarely knows their position on the list. Prices, conditions and waiting times are hard to compare.

About the app

Bootsplatz-Warteliste brings transparency to how boat berths are allocated and unifies what every harbour does differently today. All harbours on a lake are shown on a map and in a list, with berths, annual prices, waiting times and conditions. Up to four harbours can be compared side by side. Every figure states its source and date, and anything not known is shown as “unknown”.

Signing up for a waiting list happens directly in the app, even for several harbours at once. Once the email address is confirmed, the application is forwarded to the harbour office. Next, harbour offices will be able to run their waiting list in the app and import existing lists.

The app is currently in testing. The demo (in German) shows Lake Constance and Lake Zurich with clearly marked sample data; prices and conditions are made up. Harbour offices interested in the pilot on the Swiss shore of Lake Constance are welcome to get in touch.
